Welcome to the first (part 2) installment of our „High Country Tour 2017“. We’re pleased to present you our trip into the mountains of the Cadini range in the Sexten Dolomites in South Tyrol, Italy. Mainly we hiked the Sentiero Bonacossa trail. An adventurous mountain trail with some Via Ferrata climbing elements. In chorus not too difficult but partly still thrilling; with awesome views onto the Tre Cime di Lavaredo (three peaks of Lavaredo) and numerous other mountains in this wonderful ‚dolomighty’s.
We split the Bonacossa trail into a two days hiking trip, because of the weather and the slightly danger of summer storms. But nonetheless in the Rother Wanderführer „Dolomiten 5“ the well described trail was also split into a north and south part for a good reason. On this very day we started our trip at the parking area on road to the Tre Cime Di Lavaredo between the lakes Lago Di Misurina and Lago Di Antorno.
We followed the trail 115, beside the Cadin di Tocci in eastern direction to the Mountain Chain of the Gruppo Dei Cadini; stopped at the Rifugio Fonda Savio a mountain cabin-diner; then we headed north on the 117 trail; crossed the Forc. La Di Rinbianco and via the Via Ferrata Bonacossa (still 117) we reached the Rif. Auronzo our chief aim, The 101 trail (and later the road itself) guided us back to the parking area.
